
Doha, Qatar: E-Germinate Hub Limited, a leading consulting firm specializing in driving growth, capacity building, and transformation in Africa’s emerging markets, successfully executed a five-day, high-impact Maritime Security and Safety Operations Training in Doha, Qatar, in February 2025.
The program was designed to enhance NIMASA’s expertise in maritime security, risk management, and safety operations. Facilitated by Shankar Subramoniam, MBA, FICS, CMILT, CEO of Salt Tech International, a recognized expert in shipping & maritime , the sessions addressed strategic security planning, emergency response and crisis management, collaboration and global best practices, amongst other related topics in maritime security and safety operations.
Addressing critical challenges in maritime security, counter-piracy strategies, risk assessment, and threat analysis, NIMASA’s top operations personnel were equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate emerging security threats.

Training Format
To ensure an interactive and practical learning experience, the training incorporated the following activities:
1. Interactive Sessions: Participants actively contributed to case studies, discussions with captains and experts, and panel discussions.
2. Presentation and Knowledge Sharing: Presentations were made on global best practices in maritime security and safety operations.
3. Group Discussions: The interactive sessions enhanced practical understanding of the subject matter and encouraged team bonding among participants.
4. Assessments: Participants were encouraged to apply learned concepts to real-world scenarios.
5. International Recognition: The training program adhered to internationally recognized standards.
6. A case study & real experience sharing from the industry experts on an online virtual session was held with ship captains Captain Kanwar and Captain Khalid, who shared real-world experiences on maritime security operations, crisis handling, and effective response strategies in high-risk waters. Detailed discussion and real case studies of security and safety were discussed, and corrective and preventive measures were identified .

Participant Feedback and Recommendations
1. Participants expressed interest in visiting the UAE to observe the maritime industry and benchmark based on global best practices.
2. Participants also highlighted the need for field visits to the relevant port authorities in the UAE to reinforce theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
3. Participants recommended collaboration between the UAE Maritime Authority, Maritime Academy, and NIMASA to share knowledge, expertise, and ultimately strengthen diplomatic ties between both regions .
